WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY? - Woody Allen - "Monk Fruit" (1966)

Tonight's Super Sweet Saturday Night Special is a film I hold near and dear to my heart for various nostalgic reasons, so let's just get this party started!

Woody Allen's "What's Up Tiger Lily" was pretty out there for 1966. The only previous anything like this that I can remember was probably "Fractured Flickers!"

Also in 1966, The Firesign Theatre would take it to another level without the visuals! Jeez, they just had a 50 year celebration last November, and I never even heard about it! Damn, these guys are my heroes!

So, let's talk about something else Asian, and my newest fave thing,
Monk Fruit!

Monk fruit is an all natural sweetener that has been used in Asia for centuries for digestive and respiratory problems! It is 150-200 times sweeter than sugar and improves liver function, is anti-diabetic, anti-carcinogenic, antibacterial, anti-allergenic, and decreases blood sugar, cholesterol and triglycerides! It has only been in the United States since 2009! So, that means, if we all just paid attention, and without any work at all, except switching from sugar to monk fruit, 50 gazillion people would no longer be overweight and diabetic. and I find that freakin' amazing!!!

Woody buys this film, re-dubs all the voices and sounds and adds music and scenes by The Lovin' Spoonful, and turns it into one rip-roaring comedy!

Despite being named after one of the most highly addictive drugs in history, The Lovin' Spoonful managed to rack up a huge amount of hits in the 1966, having one number one hit, "Summer In The City," and two number two chart smashers, "Daydream," and "Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?" The soundtrack for "What's Up Tiger Lily?" also went to number 126 on Billboard's top 200 in the same year!

Tatsuya (The Human Vapor) Mihashi is Phil Moscowitz! He has no idea he's in this movie!

I like this creepy No. 7 prison main gate sign!

Classic!

Akiko (King Kong Vs. Godzilla,You Only Live Twice) Wakabayashi is no match for Phil! I'm really olde, but I don't ever remember MJB coffee being in a container that color!

I like this shot for some reason, maybe it's the muted colours!

C'mon, join the party! Yeehaw!!

I'd actually like to see the original version of this film, but I don't know if it exists or not! This was no cheap production and had quality star power like the always cute Mie Hama who was also in both "King Kong Vs. Godzilla," and "You Only Live Twice!

This is my favourite kind of long shot!

Without all the voices being dubbed in with ridiculous lines, you'd never know what was going on by this still alone! That Woody Allen, besides being a horndog corndog, was also a very deceptive person!

Just werid!

All I can say is, that is quite a stance!!

That's some high tech shit!!

This is about as much as you can try to understand!

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.............it was all a joke my friend!!

Woody lays on the couch while this gal strips and the ending credits roll! Just enough time to back it up, and watch it one more time cause I'm telling you....
MONK FRUIT!

LAW OF THE JUNGLE / Monogram Pictures - 1942

Here we go... Our story goes like this... Nona Brooks, a former member of a stranded theatrical troupe, earns a temporary living singing at a cafe in British Rhodesia, Africa. The owner of the cafe is secretly in league with two foreign agents with the goal of making the natives restless, so, Nona escapes from the cafe into the jungle but is followed by the agents, and, unknown to her, she's carrying a report of the agent's activities. American explorer Larry Mason is in the jungle with his servant, Jeff, and Nona joins them on their safari.

Flick stars Arline (Mrs. Hotchkiss in THE CRAWLING HAND) Judge as Nona, John 'Dusty' (HAUNTED RANCH) King as Larry and Dungeon Hero Mantan (KING OF THE ZOMBIES, REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES, SPIDER BABY) Moreland as Jeff.

Of course, Jeff shows the natives how to roll the dice and win a new pair of shoes!

Love this shot of the two foreign agents at the cafe as they receive info from the owner about creating unrest among the natives.

Nona is not having a good time as she roams through the jungle! Fortunately, she meets up with Larry and Jeff at their camp and they agree to let her join the safari.

The unrest pays off and the safari (top still) is attacked by head hunters (bottom still). It's hard to make out the turmoil, but, some interesting shots.

Larry, Nona and Jeff run like Hell and find a cave to hide in. There, they find a human skull!

Jeff decides to take a nap, and, he's having a pleasant dream until he wakes up from a push by a big old ape! This shot is for Eegah!! because of his love for simians, we used to let his squirrel monkey loose and run wild in the house when his parents were at work. I do believe his name was Scratch...

Unfortunately, in this flick, the ape gets filled full of lead and dies just before getting his furry paws on our gang, phew!!

The gang is captured by local natives and Jeff is singled out to marry the boss'es beautiful daughter! Jeff doesn't look that happy about the proposal...

Here he is in his wedding garb, talking to the very cool leader of the tribe.

Then, Larry knocks the crap out of one of the foreign agents and the mystery of who's responsible for the native unrest is solved!

So, the gang is free to leave, but, the blushing bride still wants to wed Jeff. What else, Jeff runs away and is chased by her as we bring our little tale to an end. We'll see you again tomorrow when Eegah!! does his thang, here, at The Dungeon!!

DE NACHTMERRIE - Joop Geesinw's - "The Nightmare" (19??)

Tonight's WTF!?! Wednesday in The Dungeon is just that!
I mean like, WTF!?! I thought this was a cartoon, but it turns out that it's an advertisement, but I'm pretty sure this is the first ad I've ever seen with a title card!

Good luck finding out anything about this version of "De Nachtmerrie," and I don't even remember how I ended up with it!

Do a Google search for "De Nachtmerrie" and you'll probably end up some place cool like:
This Less Than Normaal Place!

Now suddenly I'm a big Normaal fan!
Here's their cover of the classic Lovin' Spoonful song,
"Summer In The City!"

So this cat is sleeping and has a nightmare about a pirate with a mirror that tells him.........

 ................He needs a good shave!!!!

In his nightmare he's transported to this pirate ship, and a very unorthodox barber!
I could say a lot right about now, but just like this customer, I'm choosing to be mute instead!

 You're next buddy boy!!!

The barber takes a mighty swing.....................

 .............And a miss!!!

What a freakin' Psycho! What a Nightmare!!

And he wakes up in a panic until he realizes it was just a dream, and he's safe and sound and will never have to worry about such things, because.........

..........He has a groovy new electric razor!!!

And not just any electric razor, it's the latest and the greatest,
PHILIPS "PhilipShave!" So, what do you think about that? WTF!?! or not! I say
Hell Yeah and then some!! What a sales pitch!!
